Two-piece ostomy pouch have an adhesive flange (also called wafer or base plate) that fits round the stoma, with separate pouchs that are attached to the flange. The pouch is attached securely to the barrier by a mechanical coupling system. An audible 'click' confirms that the pouch is locked securely to the barrier. The adhesive flange is left in position, and a new bag is fixed to it when required. The flange is usually changed every two or three days.
