Description of Trocar Catheter
The trocar catheter is a medical puncture instrument for draining fluid or air from the chest cavity. This device consists of a sharp trocar and a PVC catheter. The trocar has a sharp cutting edge for easy introduction. The catheter has two atraumatic side holes for drainage. A proximal end of the catheter is fitted with a Taper shape connector for easy connection to the drainage Bottle/bag.
Trocar catheters are primarily used for closed chest tube thoracostomies. The catheter is designed to create a pathway for fluids or air to be removed from the chest cavity, which is necessary in certain medical conditions such as pleural effusion, pneumothorax, or hemothorax.
